An interesting recent installation by Pennine Garage Doors. This garage in Helsby was actually an old air raid shelter! It had huge thick walls and a dense concrete ceiling. Or mission was to install a new Hormann automatic sectional door.
As you can see by the picture of the old door, despite never being hit by a bomb, it had certainly stood the test of time but had become very awkward to use and the paint was pealing due to exposure to the sun etc. The new Hormann door is UV stable and is quite happy to sit in the sun without any problems. Although we do advise against dark coloured doors if the garage is south facing and is exposed to the sun.
After removing the old door, we cleaned up the brickwork opening of old sealants and paint, then installed the new Hormann door, finishing the job off with uPVC trims and fascia board.
We also fitted an emergency release system. This is for when the garage has no other access other than the automatic garage door and is a safeguard in the event of a power cut. The user can simply unlock a mechanism with a key and change the door over to a manually operated door. It is simple and can be put back to its automated state once the power is back on.
